Using a High-Temperature Countertop Oven Safely
An appliance that reaches 800°F on a kitchen worktop deserves more respect than a toaster, and the precautions are straightforward once you know what they are.

The Exterior Gets Hot
This is the point people underestimate. An oven running at 800°F internally has a shell, a lid and a handle that are all hot enough to burn on contact.
Manufacturers state this plainly, and specifications at piezano.net note it among the honest drawbacks rather than burying it. Treat the whole appliance as hot, use gloves rather than a folded tea towel, and do not judge by whether a surface looks hot.
Clearances
- Follow the manufacturer’s stated clearances at the sides, back and above
- Never operate it under a wall cupboard without checking the required gap
- Keep it away from curtains, tea towels, paper and anything flammable
- Use it on a stable heat-resistant surface, not on a wooden board or cloth
- Do not cover it or place anything on top while hot
Children
A viewing window is genuinely appealing to children, which is both the charm of these ovens and the risk. A child pulling a chair over to watch is standing at face height with a very hot surface.
Position it well back from the counter edge, supervise, and establish the rule before the first bake rather than after an incident. Older children can be involved in the making and should not be handling the oven.
Electrical
Plug it directly into a wall socket rather than an extension lead or a multi-way adaptor. High-wattage heating appliances draw substantial current, and extension leads are a recognised fire risk with this class of appliance.
Do not run it on the same circuit as other high-draw appliances if the circuit is marginal, and stop using it if the plug or cable becomes warm.
Never Leave It Unattended
Bakes are four to six minutes, which is short enough that stepping away feels harmless and long enough for something to go wrong.
Semolina and flour on a hot stone can smoke. A topping that slides off can char. Neither is a problem if you are standing there.
Thermal Shock on the Stone
Ceramic cracks when temperature changes suddenly. Do not put frozen food directly onto a preheated stone, and do not run water onto a stone that has not fully cooled.
Let the oven cool completely before cleaning anything.
Ventilation and Smoke
Electric ovens produce no combustion products, so no gas, smoke or carbon monoxide. What they do produce is smoke from burning flour, semolina and spilled cheese on the stone.
Scraping the stone between sessions reduces it considerably, and running an extractor is sensible during a long pizza night.
After Use
Unplug it, and let it cool fully before moving it. A hot appliance carried across a kitchen is how burns happen, and the cooling period is longer than most people expect.
